because there is casparian strips present which have suberin deposition which is impervious to water. So water have to take different pathway

royboy: There are 2 types of pathway for water movt.-apoplastic and symplastic
royboy: Water in apoplast moves through cell wall and intercellular spaces. It is faster than symplastic coz less resistance is posed.
royboy: Symplastic through plasmodesmata. It iz slower coz high resistance offered .Also known as transmembrane pathway
royboy: In epidermis and cortex water moves thru apoplast pthway. But apoplast is not exclusive in those area. Then comes endodermis where casparian strips are present in cell wall which have suberin depostn so water cant go thru cell wall and spaces which is apoplastic. So it has to take different path from plasmodesmata.
royboy: After endodermis, comes pericycle where also symplastic pathway is followed but this time symplast is not exclusive as in endodermis.
royboy: Next comes Xylem where plasmodesmata is absent as xylem is dead.so water can take only apoplast pathway.so apoplast is exclusive in xylem.
royboy: I hope u would understand...
