The earth is not an uniformly equal solid sphere.

The earth is made with several layers such as mantle,crust,inner core,outer core etc.

The cracked boundaries between this layers is often known as the discontinuities.

The reasons for formation of these discontinuities are;

1)movement of tectonic plates

2)earth's layer formation of different density's substances

3)due to the thermal influxes
