why there are two ways of greeting (formal & informal)

Formal way of greeting is used to address our elders,especially teachers,boss and people with whom we  have a formal acquaintance.

For e.g. :Good morning

Informal way of greeting is used to address our friends and people with whom we are very close.

For e.g.: Hi,How you doing etc.

At the same time,if we are really close with our teachers or any elderly people, we may address them informally.
