why there is a need for varietal improvement

There are numerous reasons for varietal improvements,increased yield in the final goal .This may be bringing about by various inmprovement. Disease resistance ,insect tolerance or abiliy to repel , and drought tolerance are only a few of the reasons. But the final goal is increased yield in some way.
