why there is a need to have non economic indicators for development

Non-material things are things that not easily measured but they mean a lot to our lives. Only income does not make for development. People also seek :

sense of security and freedomequal treatment, freedomsecurity, andrespect from others. 

On the other hand they also resent discrimination.
