The following three reasons are why there is a problem of water scarcity:
★ Population rises, so do the demands.
As the people in an area increase, their demands also increase. For example:
- more people → more food requirement → more water needed for agriculture
- more people → more requirement of water for daily works like bathing, cooking, drinking
★ Human activities contaminate.
Humans never change. These are some activities that are degrading the quality of water, reducing its quantity so water is wasted:
- overuse of chemical pesticides and fertilizers
- factories discharging their polluting effluents into rivers without treatment
- rivers like Ganga and Yamuna being used for bathing and dumping animal waste
★ We carelessly use.
Water is mainly being wasted by us being ignorant to the importance of this precious resource. These are the examples:
- taking a shower rather than bathing from a bucket
- forgetting to close taps after using them
- using a great amount water on the festival of Holi
- overflow of water tanks in houses if there is no alarm
So the real reason is you, and me, and everyone.
