Following are the main reasons for why is there a need for food security in India :-
1) There is a continuous tendency on the part of traders in India to hoard food grains and to accentuate the shortage of food grains in order to push up the prices for reaping extraordinary profit . Thus , this speculation and hoarding has created artificial cricsis of foodgrains in the country
2) The population of India is increasing at a very fast rate . The population of India has increased from 361 millions in 1951 to about 1027 millions in 2001 .
3) Most of the food grains are produced only by some states like Haryana , Punjab , Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh . So , it is very difficult to transfer food grains from one region to another .
