Why there is conflict between dhakshan and shiva lord?
Answers
There was never a conflict between them regarding who is greater. (They even had a love child, Ayappa Swamy). But they sure had come face to face against each other twice for the sake of their worshippers.
First incidence was the conflict of Nagas (cobras) and Garudas (eagles). Naga is Lord Shiva's necklace while Garuda is Lord Vishnu's vahana (mode of transport). And since Garudas eat Nagas, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu had a huge fight upon it. Lord Vishnu tried to choke Lord Shiva and Shiva tried to impale Vishnu with his Trishula (trident). The fight was so terrifying that all other Gods and Goddesses came down begging them to stop. At last Lord Vishnu confessed that Lord Shiva was so engrossed with his sorrow of losing his wife Sati that he became ignorant of the world. In order to bring him back to world Lord Vishnu deliberately provoked him with the help of his Garuda. Due to the conflict, Lord Shiva has a handprint on his neck while Vishnu has three scars on his chest.
Second incident was due to an Asura called Banasura. Banasura was an ardent devout of Lord Shiva. With his severe penance he had please Lord Shiva and in boon he asked Lord Shiva to accept him as his son. Lord Shiva thus accepted to be his father and protected him from all enemies. Lord Kartikeya (another son of Lord Shiva) gifted Banasura a Vijaya-stambha or Pillar of Victory. He also gave a boon to Banasura that as long as the pillar stood tall and proud, no one could ever defeat Banasura.
