HERE IS THE ANSWER!!!

In summer the rails get very hot and expand. If there is no gap between the ends of the rails, the rails may bend which is dangerous for the trains. To prevent the derailing of trains, small gaps are left between the rails to allow for expansion....

THIS IS THE REASON WHY THERE'S A GAP!!

HOPE IT HELPS!!!

Answer:

These gaps which are of the order of a few millimeters, are provided to allow room for the rails to expand the rise in temperature due to the atmospheric temperature as well as the friction caused by running of train. All materials expand when heated and contract when cooled

hope it helps you!!!
