Here you can see that in the left picture latitudes are shown and in right longitudes.
Observe all longitudes starts from the same point and ends in the same point, so that we have longitude 180 degree at diametrically opposite to 0 degree. We have 150 degree east at diametrically opposite to 30 degree west. Like this 120 degree east opposite to 60 degree west and so on. watch the globe carefully and notice that 30 degree west longitude alone cannot form the complete circle but it needs the diametrically opposite 150 degree east to complete the circle. Similarly, no longitude alone is able to form the complete circle alone, but they need their counter part longitude which is suited at diametrically opposite to form the complete circle. So we have a range of 0 to 360 degree of longitudes which comprises of 0 to 180 degree east and 0 to 180 west.

Now let us come back to focus the question and see the left picture, you can see the zero degree equator is forming a circle alone unlike the case of longitude where 0 degree and 180 degree both together form the complete circle; in a way, we can say that 2 latitudes are being connected end to end. Similarly 30 degree latitude also forming the circle completely, again same explanation, what i want you to notice is neither all latitudes are starting from the same point nor ending at the same point. So, if we consider longitude range is 0 to 360 degree but because latitudes are lined in such a way that each latitude acts like 2 latitudes are connected end to end, so range of latitude should be 0 to 180 degree. The latitudes are actually 0 to 180 degree but they are named as 0 to 90 degree north and 0 to 90 degree south; that’s why, we cannot have higher latitudes greater than 90 degree north and south. Hope, i was able to elucidate properly.

hope it helps!!!!

the equator. Hence no higher angle than 90 degrees north or south. Because 90 degrees forms a right angle.
