Why there is no reaction in calcination in presence of air?

Answer:

In calcination, ores are heated strongly in the absence of air(Oxygen).This is done so as to convert Metal Carbonates into Metal Oxides and Carbon Di Oxide. If these ores are heated in presence of air no reaction will take place and all our will go in vain.
