Why there is no rise in temperature of a substance when it undergoes a change of state though it is being continuously heated?

the heat energy which has to be supplied to change the state is latent heat.latent heat does not raise the temperature but it has to be applied to change the state of the substance. ... it is called latent because it becomes hidden in the substance undergoing the change of the state, and does not raise the temperature
