why there is only 26 alphabets
Answers
Today the English alphabet has 26 letters, even though English has around 38 distinct sounds (24 consonants and around 14 vowels) depending on the dialect.
You might imagine a spelling reform to fix that, adding some new letters. But in some sense English is beyond the ‘point of no return’ in terms of a transparent spelling system (Daniel Ross' answer to Which Western language has the most un-phonemic spelling system?). It’s a mess now, but it’s what we’re used to, and even adding a few letters wouldn’t fix it easily. It also might be hard to convince people to use entirely new letters as opposed to using digraphs (Daniel Ross' answer to Is there a word for a pair of letters that often go together?) or adding diacritics to mark variants of letters (Daniel Ross' answer to What is the main function of diacritical marks in the English language?).
But that has not always been the situation. An important part of why English spelling is not more transparent is the vowels. And for that we need to explore the history of English spelling.
