this is because 23 chromosomes are received from the male and 23 from the female.so there is a total of 46 chromosomes which is a pair of 23 chromosomes.

we hv only 23 pairs(46 chromosomes) because 23 chromosomes are received from the male and 23 chromosomes from the female so in total 46 chromosomes ( 23 pairs ) are there
