Why there was no grass when dinosaurs existed?

there was but as there was abundan herbivorous dinosaurs than carnivorous so grass existed but not in abunted no.

the land masses were all joint n the inland region was hot and covered with barren deserts .no flowering plants existed only ferns and palm like trees grew near streams
