There are gaps between the railway lines to prevent friction and stop the cause of Fire. if there would be no gap between the railway tracks then when the train will pass it would cause friction and as we know that heat causes expansion of the metal so the trains will will expand and accidents can also be caused.

As we know that metals contract and expands on cooling/heating respectively.
Therefore, during summers railway tracks expand and if there will be no gap it will expand side ways and can cause accidents.
So, there r gaps for expansions in railway tracks.
