why this happens that as we go higher altitude, the temperature decreases?
For eg. in terai region of nepal, temperature is high and in himalayan region, temperature is low? I know that temperature id 1 degree less as we go up 165 degree but why does it decrease??

Answer:
Convection and pressure.
Explanation:
As you increase in elevation, there is less air above you thus the pressure decreases. As the pressure decreases, air molecules spread out further, and the temperature decreases. So basically from what my understanding of it is that the higher you go up and away from the earth, the harder it is for the convection currents of air to reach you. The heat from the sun has to make contact with the ground before cooling off and rising again. So by the time the warm air reaches you in the higher altitudes, it has already cooled off a lot.
This information should all be correct. Hope this helps!
