basically for proper movement of any vehicle we need a proper contact between moving part and an still part. in this case the moving part is a Tyre and still part is road. vehicle will not move until the friction between both is not good enough to transfer the force from Tyre to road , which will lead into a car motion .

the other reasons is to improve the breaking of any vehicle. if the treads are not made on the treys it will be difficult to stop the vehicles also .
