Excess rainwater causes water logging on the surface. This is harmful in many ways. Given below are just a few.
1) Leaching of minerals: When this excess water percolates into the soil, it takes along with it all the minerals that were present in the topsoil. This will cause deficiency of minerals in plants and will ultimately lead to improper grwoth.
2) Excess water can block pathways in plants like stomata and etc. which can choke the plant and prevent exchange of gases with the atmosphere.
3) Floods: Excess rainfall can also cause flooding of rivers and even streets with improper drainage systems. Floods cause a lot of damage to lives and property.
