Why transpiration is important in plant
Answers
The importance of transpiration in plants is to cool the plant and provide water and nutrients to the leaves. During transpiration, water evaporates through openings in the leaves called stomata. This creates a negative pressure inside the leaves that draws water up from the roots through the xylem. This brings both water and nutrients dissolved in the water to the leaves. As water evaporates, it takes with it heat. Like sweating in animals, this helps to keep the plant cool during a sunny day.
Transpiration is important for plants because —
(a)It helps in absorption and upward movement of water and minerals from roots to leaves.
(b)It prevents the plant parts from heating up.
(c)It maintaina the turgidity of the cells and helps in cell division.
(d)It maintains osmosis and keeps the cell rigid
