Tribes are called scheduled tribes in india because the government of india has given specific names to these societies so that it would be easier to work for them and also to ensure that nobody calls them by any disrespectful names legally .

The term 'Scheduled Tribes' first appeared in the Constitution of India. Article 366 and the while making the constitution the tribes were assimilated into the constitutional framework and they classified tribal communities under Article 366 and Article 342 of constitution and this classification is known as Schedule tribes.
