Trucks have more mass & need much force than cars to move with higher velocities and Acceleration. To make up this force, Engines of high power are required. These engines used in the trucks though powerful than car, both of them can accelerate to a extent. So, High power engines are required in trucks and other vehicles which have more mass and hence a larger area than cars.
