electric field lines are curves that start from positive and ends in negative. A tangent drawn at any point of these lines gives the direction of electric field. If two field lines cross each other two tangents can be drawn at their point of intersection and there will be two direction for electric field at that region which is not possible. Therefore,  two field lines never cross each other.
