The upward and downward movement of diaphragm occurs consecutively during inspiration process. It is because when you inhale the air, diaphragm in your breathing system moves fully upward and while you exhale the air, diaphragm fully moves download .

hope this will help you.

kanwaljeetsingh20071: This occurs because when we want to inhale air we have taken air in by pulling it and to do this our body above abdomen moves upward and diaphragm is situated at the base of lungs that is at abdomen only so it also move upward and when we release air we push it during which our body relax and come back to its original position that is body above abdomen moves down and relax due which diaphragm also moves down and relax.
