ANSWER.1:-Shehnai is an improved version of pungi as it has a better tonal quality than pungi. It is a natural hollow stem pipe with seven holes on its body and is longer and broader than the pungi.
ANSWER.2:-In the past, the shehnai was a part of the naubat or traditional ensemble of nine instruments found at royal courts. It was used only in temples and weddings till recently. Ustad Bismillah Khan gets the credit for bringing this instrument onto the classical stage.
