Why US interfered in the unification of North and South Vietnam?

The main reason why USA interfered in the font was due to it's support for democracy. France was a democratic country and USA it's ally. while sovient union was a communist country. USA feared the spread of communism and hence interfered in unification of South and North Vietnam.
