This comes up again and again. We have too many languages created by amateurs and too little discernment among too many programmers about what languages should be used. Hence we have PHP, Ruby, JavaScript and other atrocious languages littering the landscape of professional software development.

I beg you, don’t add to this. If you’re interested in programming languages, that in itself is a good thing, but more than in any other field of software, you need proper formal training at an institution of higher learning to actually make a contribution in this field.
