The valency, on moving left to right in a period increases due to increase in atomic size.

Aflax: I want to know at what point it starts decreasing
AdhirathKumar: After the 5th group the valency comes down to 1.
Aflax: Ok thanks

The valency increases because of increase in the atomic size. It increases till 4 and after that it keeps on decreasing.
1 to 4 the valency increases and then from 5 it decreases.
