As we go deep inside the earth the Value of 'R' decreases therefore according to formula the value of 'g' should increase. But it is not so because as we go inside the earth towards its center the part of the earth(M) responsible for the gravitational force also decreases that is the value of the 'M' also decreases.

The value of g REDUCES as we go deep inside the earth because the respective spherical mass of earth decreases, that is, the radius of earth decreases, which results in the decrease of mass of earth, as the density of the earth remains same throughout. When I was 13 I was confused that if the distance between the earth and the object is decreased, then why is the acceleration due to gravity decreased? Now I understood it after the analysis. I could not find the answer on net.

Thank you so much for asking such useful questions :)

Note: the acceleration due to gravity at depth ‘d’ is g(1-d/r)
