Heart pushed the blood into arterial system with great force to reach our body parts such as arms, legs, brain, etc. This blood is use by the body parts for metabolism. Veins carry this used blood from body parts to the heart and it a slower system. And for taking this blood, veins needs to act against the gravity, for example leg. These valves inside veins prevent the back flow of blood so that they have unidirectional flow towards the heart. On the contrary arteries carry blood at high speed and force so no backflow of blood.
