Viral diseases are not treated by giving antibiotics because antibiotics are used against bacterial infections.

An antibiotic can be described as a antimicrobial medicine which inhibits the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics can also kill certain types of bacteria.
Antibiotics are not effective against viral diseases because they are designed to function against different bacteria.
Also, as the virus interacts with the host machinery for growth and development , certain antiviral drugs are designed to work against the virus enzymes.
