Because outside the host body it is like a non living thing after entering the host body it reproduce and uses it's metabolism for it's growth

•Viruses are not supposed to be living as they are in the borderline between living and non living.

When they are inside the living organisms , they become active and grow and when they are outside the living organisms , they become inactive.

So, we can't say viruses as living.
