Viruses are acellular structures which have all the biomolecules and nucleic acid a living organism should contain but lack the mechanism that carry out metabolic activities.
Since they lack mechanism for metabolism, they are non living until and unless they get some one else's mechanism to carryout their metabolism.
So when they enter hosts body, like humans, bacterias etc, they use the mechanism of the host to carry out their metabolic activities. Hence divide inside their host body only.
As they cannot have metabolic activities outside the host they cannot divide in external environment
