voltmeter is connected in parallel series because objects in parallel experience the same potential difference. if it is connected in series then it will change the value of potential difference which will minimizes the current in circuit as it has very large resistance and you will get fault readings.

A voltmeter to measure device's voltage, it must be connected in parallel to the device. This is necessary because objects in parallel experience the some potential difference . Ammeter (A) measures the electric current in a circuit. This is necessary because objects in series experience the same current.
