82°30' east was chosen as the standard meridian of time for india because india has a time lapse of about 2hrs from gujarat to Arunachal pradesh. This creates inconvenience, so for smooth functionong of transport and other facilities a standard meridian was chosen whose time will be the time for whole india. Also, 82°30' meridian pases through the centre of the country so it is chosen as the standard meridian for time calculation.
