The prominent Mughal king Akbar was interested in the Gonds as -
1. Garhkatanga, a Gond Kingdom had a queen Rani Durgavati. He wanted to make her a vassal of his kingdom as she was very powerful.
2. The kingdom was rich.
They practiced agriculture.
They exported elephants to other kingdoms.
Their administrative set-up was well organized.
Akbar wanted to capture these resources of the Gonds and was therefore interested in them.
