She is the world's first female amputee to scale the Mount Everest, Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Mount Elbrus (Russia), Mount Kosciusko (Australia), Mount Aconcagua (South America), Mount Denali (North America) and Mount Vinson. In addition, she is a seven time Indian volleyball player.
In 2011, she was pushed from a running train by robbers while she was resisting them, causing rods to push into her right leg and multiple fractures of the medulla spinalis .
Her aim was to reach each of the continents' highest peaks and hoist the ensign of India.
