Why was 'Base ten not used in computers?

Base ten isn't used because it doesnt utilise all the permutations of 0's and 1's of a 4 bits, or any other number of bits. The number ten would be represented as 1010 and then you have to start again at 0000. Hexadecimal utilises all 16 of the permutations between 0000 and 1111.
