Thank you for this question. Please find the answer below:

It was dreadful being sick in the annexe for the following reasons;

(i) She was not supposed to cough so there is no noise, she was coughing under her blanket.

(ii) She was unable to write her diary.

(iii) She had no proper medical care available.

Anne suffered due to the fire because it increased her cough.

The stay in the Annex was so dreadful because of the greatest fear of being caught by the Nazis around. It was a secret dwelling for Anne and the other inmates where they lived without giving a single clue to the outside world. Even a single noise was not to be made. A cough, hiccup, sneeze, laugh or talk, nothing was allowed.

The windows were closed and curtained. There was no light. No doctor can visit them if they were sick and easily any infectious disease would spread to others.

When Anne had flu, it was very hard for her as she could not get treated and the worst thing she was not even able to cough or sneeze but just had to dwell inside her rug and control. Once she even caught on fire and had burnt her fingers while trying to put off the fire.
