In 1903,the viceroy of Bengal ,Lord Curzon ,divided the Bengal and the reason given was that it was done for administrative efficiency as Bengal is very large province but the real motive of the British behind partition of Bengal was to disrupt Hindu-muslim unity and to crush a powerful wave of nationalism in Bengal.Rabindranath tagore led the movement against partition and was unsuccessful but on the day of partition ,people throughout Bengal tied rakhi on each other's wrist to show their brotherhood. But afterwards when the swadeshi movement spread like wildfire ,the britishers were forced to annual the partition of Bengal in 1911
