Explanation:

Bhungi did not have enough money to pay the rent and Pandit Udaybhan allowed her to stay in the village only on one condiƟon – that she would do odd jobs for him. Being a poor woman, Bhungi could not buy land or build her own house. All she had was a chulha (clay oven) for roasƟng grain.
