At the age of 35 , after years of seeking , Siddhartha is believed to have achieved enlightenment . Enlightenment is the state of heightened awareness to what Buddhists see as the truth . It's a loose translation for the Sanskrit word for awakened , bodhi . During his enlightened period , Siddhartha achieved Nirvana .
