The nickname of Chandashoka ( Ashoka-the ruthless) was given to Ashoka because of Wickedness.
The Ashoka before the battle of Kalinga and conversion to Buddhism was a cruel, ruthless, merciless and wicked person. He killed, executed and tortured lakhs of people. According to scholars he once killed 500 women of his court and had a torture center which was a hell on earth. So due his wickedness and cruelty he was nicknamed Chandashoka ( Ashoka-the ruthless).
