Reason for modification of Dalton atomic theory:

  • As per the Dalton theory, atom is the ultimate particle but with discovery of radioactivity smaller particles than atom were found.
  • Atoms cannot be created or destroyed, This declaration is still acceptable for common chemical reaction but the discovery of radioactivity revealed that atoms can be created or destroyed.
  • The experiment of discharge tube  prove the existence of charge particles.
  • The discovery of isotopes. Isotopes are the substance which have the same atomic number but  different mass number.
  • The discovery of Nuclear reactions also went against the theory of Dalton.
  • Atoms of various elements can mix in simple whole number ratio to form compound.
