The F-22 wasn't cancelled as such. It was a program that was US only. With no orders being taken from other countries it was dependant on orders from the US, and once the orders were fulfilled the program would end.

The initial order for the F-22 was for 750, and then it was reduced to 648, then reduced again to 339. Lastly the final order was for a build of 195, 8 for testing and 187 for front line. That is a reduction of 555 airframes. Most of the gigs were destroyed or stored, lost. Now the US government is anguishing over their of stupidityy closing the program so early.
