Franz did not want to go to school, as it was on that day a test on french participles was scheduled, for which he was least prepared and had no single idea of. He was worried about the fact that this french teacher, M Hamel, would scold him for his bad performance.
It was because of this very reason, Franz did not want to go to school that day.
