CF Andrews wanted to stay in Champaran and help the peasants, but Gandhiji objected to it because he wanted to mould 'a new free Indian'. He wanted Indians to stand on their own feet. He didn't want Indians to take their help of an Englishman in their struggle fro freedom. So, he taught a lesson in self-reliance.
