why was gangetic plain a strategic location during the dawn of 18th century?
Answers
The gangetic plain; popularly known as the Indo-Gangetic plain held significance in the 18th century.
This was due to the fact, that this plain was the region where the Indus Valley Civilization existed.
This region was the hub of culture of the Indian subcontinent.
Its location strategically held importance as, its flat and fertile terrain had facilitated the repeated rise and expansion of various empires in previous times. These included the Gupta empire, Kanauj, Magadha, the Maurya Empire, the Pala Empire, the Mughal Empire and the Sultanate of Delhi; all of which had their demographic and political centers in the Indo-Gangetic plain.
At certain points in history this region was also referred to as "Aryavarta" or (Land of the Aryans).
In the monsoon season the banks of the rivers beside these plains was a great spot to accommodate various species of plants and animals.
These lands didn't only describe the people of that time and how its location was a great piece of land. In fact it was a reason for struggle because it held the norms and culture of the people as well, of that time period.
