Why was Gulliver taken to the king ?

Gulliver was shipwrecked near the shore of Lilliput. He was made a prisoner by the six inch tall people of the place. They tried to attack him. But when their efforts proved to be futile and they did not know what to do with the gigantic man they took him to the king.
