Reason no 1 > For an ordinary non hindi speaking person in India to learn a new language is very difficult. And if we are talking about people from villages then it is almost impossible to learn even hindi. This is something probably beyond the thought process of a hindi speaking person. Now let's talk about ordinary middle class people in India outside of hindi belt. Unfortunately, their situation is also not very different from those village people. But because they are educated, they are better at it. But still it is a struggle. So when you are struggling if you choose between hindi and English, then they are thinking about - hmm, national and international, well, it's simple English.

Reason no 2> Preferring English over hindi has nothing to do with politics. Now suppose a situation where hindi is not has the stature in India like it is now rather it is either tamil or Bengali. I am sure if ordinary people(Middle class and village people) from maharastra are asked to speak in either tamil or Bengali, it will be very very unfair. Some way, injustice.

Reason 3> Now, let's come to the technical part of it. Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu etc are actually brother language of hindi because of similarities. Now, a lot of hindi speaking person don't know this that even though Bengali language has some similarly with hindi but it is not a brother of hindi, at best it can be described as a very very distant cousin. Bengali has the least similarities with hindi compared with Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu etc. Brother language of Bengali are Assamese, Odia. This is why it is tough for a Bengali person to learn hindi compare to the Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu etc speaking people. This is probably a hindi speaking person is not aware of. Can't really blame them. But this is the reality. Now, if we talk about South Indian languages then they are completely different and foreign language from hindi. Almost as foreign as English. So you can imagine how hard it is for them.

This is not a political problem. This is a technical language problem. I would want India to be together and united. And I don't like to see that we are fighting over petty little issues like this. Anyway, in the world over, it has kind of recognized that Indian people speak in Indian English with their unique English and which is completely different from the original queen English. So Indians do not need to be insecured about English thinking it is a foreign language because it is not, it has now become an Indian connective language. We should own it like the way Americans do it. They say with arrogance that they are speaking American and they do not care where it's origin came from. They are proud of their American accent. We should be proud of our Indian English speaking accent and we should not allow ourselves to be insecured.
